HOW CAN TECHNOLOGY EMPOWER TEACHERS?
HOW CAN TECHNOLOGY EMPOWER TEACHERS?
According
to a survey done by Gallup Education, students who
perceive their teachers and schools are motivated to help them build their
strengths, are 30 times more likely to be engaged in class”. So if we as
teachers try to incorporate technology in our classes it will allow us to teach
in a more entertaining way and this in turn, makes our students feel more
motivated in class, this way they pay attention to the class and it would be
easier for them to attain knowledge. To sum up, for us, it´s easier to teach if
we use technologies, not the opposite, as we used to think.
Personalization and Capacity to Focus on Individual Students
One of the big benefits of incorporating
technology into the classroom is the possibility it gives teachers to focus on
individual students in a way that was not possible before. Instead of carrying
a group of students through the curriculum at the same speed, regardless of
each individual student’s capacity, background, and engagement with each topic,
new tools allow teachers to follow each student individually, and to approach
lessons in a way that lets them help each one learn every topic in a comprehensive
way.
There are many different tools that can
help educators personalize their lessons. One is the usage of tools like online
courses, videos, and interactive material to canalize most of the content, and
devoting their time to follow each individual student’s performance, and acting
as a tutor who help them understand the whole topic. Another way, is to have
students use computers, mobile devices, or other electronic tools to do certain
exercises which adapt according to each individual’s speed, level of
understanding and interests. This way, teachers can verify the class’ progress
through a dashboard, and evaluate what each student needs.
